Lets the shooter infinitely adjust head placement to get best fit for any type of shooting . . . rifle position shooting, changing between scopes and iron sights, or using a shotgun for both field and trap shooting. Allows comb to adjust four ways: up, down, plus left and right. Comb height is adjusted by sleeves inlet into the cut-off top of the comb, and locked with set screws through side of stock. Left and right adjustment is provided by posts sliding in milled slots in the base plate and locked with set screws. Requires cutting of stock and bedding of plates and sleeves into stock. Stock cannot be returned to original condition. SPL #870 and are individual sleeves attached to separate circular base plates that allow greater flexibility in side-to-side comb placement and angle.

Ease of installation(30/12/2013)
The Graco adjustable comb hardware SPL -870 is by far the easiest form of hardware to install that I have found so far. A few Forstner bits, a level, a jig to hold things in place, and a drill press, and you're ready to go. I do suggest that you burr the sides of the bottom plates to allow the epoxy to have something to grab hold of. That's the only reason I just gave it 4 stars instead of 5.
Great Product - Some Skill Required(09/02/2016)
Installed the GRACO adjustable comb hardware on my old .300 WIN MAG Browning A-Bolt to provide better eye/scope alignment - requires some skill level but definitely doable if one does proper preparation and layout. Instructions are bare minimum but one can easily figure it out during the preparation phase. Highly recommend a bandsaw and a drill press to install correctly. Height of posts are 0.810" so highest feasible setting with good bite by set screws will be about 0.600" - you can get another 0.250" height by buying two stainless steel #10-24 by 1" socket screws and two steel bushings (7/16" OD, 3/16" ID by 1/4" - ones I purchased have set screws also) and replace the socket screws that came with kit and slip bushings under the posts. Recommend taping the entire stock to protect finish and then draw a line where you want to cut the comb - recommend 1.125" - 1.250" from the top of the stock to allow for smoothing out kerf marks. If applying to a rifle, especially long actions, ensure enought room is allowed for full bolt action. I used a 1/8", 14 TPI bandsaw blade for tight radius and smallest kerf - also mounted stock to a piece of 1"x6" with wedges and tape to ensure it was level on both axis for a precise cut (rehearse how you will cut on bandsaw before cutting - ensure you have room to make full cut because once you start cutting, you're committed). Sand the saw kerf marks away - after kerf clean-up I had less than 0.075" gap between stock and comb. Use either a gun vise or make a jig to hold stock when drilling for post base to ensure stock is level end to end and side to side - same for comb (I used a 5/8" forstner bit for comb to 0.625" depth to set bushing and then a 1/2" forstner bit to bore another 0.125"-0.150", 0.750" to 0.775" overall depth, for post clearance CAUTION - be sure you have adequate materiel on comb or you may inadvertantly bore through the top of the comb). Before you bore bushing holes in comb, epoxy post bases into the stock (score sides like mentioned in other post for good adheasion) and once epoxy set, remove posts and temporarily install set screws in center of bases - aligned comb on stock and then push or rap comb so set screws make an indentation in comb for drilling, will ensure precise bushing alignment.. Score and epoxy bushings in comb and once set, drill and tap for set scews on side of comb away from shooter (same side as your bolt). Seal stock and comb with several coats of Tru-Oil and you are in business.
