This is an amazing tool!(16/02/2010)
I have been putting off recrowning an old Remington 35 for over a year now. I always have my lathe tied up on other projects, and the receiver would just barley clear the thru boar on the spindle. Well I had my doubts at first abut this tool, but I am simply amazed. I recrowned that old Remington in 10 minutes and it looks perfect. Manson got their cutter geometry just right so only slight downward pressure is needed to make a perfect, no chatter finish! The outside deburring tool also worked great! This tool will pay for itself in just a few jobs, and it will last forever!
Recrowning with the Manson Tool(18/02/2011)
Around these parts I am know as the crown nazi, a term taken from the Seinfeld character the soup nazi. Anyway, I never believed in manual crowning methods because I didn't like the idea of a revolving pilot running in the bore. If I couldn't swing the barrel in the lathe then it wasn't for me. A friend recommended the Manson tool and so I invested in it thinking it would save time while at the range restoring crowns. I like Dave's crowning tool. I like the fact that the pilot is held in place by an expandable arbor while the cutter rotates around it, providing a clean, crip crown.
I prefer the lathe as that provides the very best results, however, the Manson Crowning Tool goes with me everywhere!
Excellent Tool(09/08/2013)
Since I received this I have done 3 10/22 crown jobs and the results were perfect. This is a very easy gizmo to use, dare I say foolproof. A quick touch-up with Brownell's Oxpho-Blue and I would dare to suspect my 10/22 has a better than factory muzzle now.
What a time saver !!!!!!!!! WOW !(14/05/2014)
I use to use my south bend lathe and a 4 jaw chuck. and had to take the gun apart to do it. charged 1 hour labor and always took me two. With this it is done in 5 minuets!! WORTH the money !! Will be buying more adapters asap to do more.
Neat Idea, but I'd rather use a lathe(22/04/2015)
While it IS versatile when buying the whole set, be very carefull not to do anything wrong, because all the mandrills have to fit into the same cuttinghead.
I've been extra carefull to clean, and lightly lubricate inside the cuttinghead - but something messed up, and now I cant us ANY of the two cuttingheads, even with shafts/brushes that I haven't previously used.
Make one mistake, and that cuttinghead, and likely the shaft/brush is ruined forever.
If the shaft fastens even a little in the cuttinghead, the shaft/brush will either tighten or loosen - loose enough to not keep the tool in the right angle, or tight enough for the expanding part to lock up inside the gun, making it difficult to remove.
Right now, after 3 uses, it's just he most expencive non-functioning tool on the shelf - collecting dust.
Best crowning tool(23/01/2016)
Does the job done
Worth the money(28/01/2012)
I bought a cheaper crowning tool to reface and crown .223 barrels. After barrel #8, the pilot tube broke off the face of the cutting tool. Rather than spend another $90.00 to replace a tool that already failed, I bought the Manson Precision refacing kit. I first watched a demo of the tool on You Tube. When I used it the first time, it worked exactly as demonstrated. Made smooth cuts with no chatter marks. The pilot bushing fits well inside the barrel. The brush on the end helps remove chips from the barrel as the bushing is pulled from the barrel. The hand crank and guide work very well to provide steady and even downward pressure to the cutting blades. It cost more but the quality and ability to do .22 and .30 calibers made it worth the money for me. If you plan on refacing many barrels this is the professional grade tool to use.

You get what you pay for. This is a well-made tool that is very easy to use. The resulting crown is clean and sharp looking.
The perfect solution to recrown a barrel(19/05/2013)
I just purchased this kit a couple weeks ago, all i can say is Wow, this recrowning kit is simple to use and does an amazing job! I have been playing with a couple .22 rimfires and they went from ok to tack drivers after recrowning the barrels, one of the best purchases I've made.
Excellent kit!(22/09/2013)
So far I've used this kit to cut and re-crown three rifles, all with excellent results.
I just got done cutting an inch off of my .308 Rem 700 varmint, and at the range today I shot a five shot group of .309. Even with the bedded stock and carefully hand loaded ammo, this wasn't possible before the cut/re-crown. I've also cut and re-crowned several Mosin Nagants which dramatically improves the accuracy of these rifles. I can hold under one MOA in the last Mosin I worked on. Previously, I thought you needed a high-end lathe and heaps of experience to achieve this. Not.
Excellent kit for the money(11/01/2014)
Used the first time today to recrown a Mosin Nagant that I believe saw action due to the muzzle being so beat up. The set is very easy to use, remember to use cutting oil (as it states in the instructions) and it makes crowning a muzzle really easy.
Manson Precision Crowning Kit(18/05/2015)
As a law enforcement armorer I needed/wanted to cut down four (4) precision rifle barrels to 18". The cost of the two (2) arbor kit was close to the cost of having the work done. Once the kit arrived it was very easy to setup and use and it did a very fine job. Best of all a guy can hacksaw cut a precision rifle barrel and finish off the cut with this tool. A straight cut of course makes the finish job much faster.
I have owned this kit for three years plus now and have cut down at least 20 barrels and have loaned it out to other agency's. It still cuts as well as it did on day one. The average time from start of cut to finish is about 30 minutes....taking your time.
This is a very high quality tool and does a professional crowning job with ease. While the initial cost seems high it is well worth the cost and can pay for itself many times over.
